Pallet Maintenance
All Pallets should be inspected at least once a year per the criteria set forth below. The pallet should be inspected by a person who has been trained by reviewing this module below. All pallets should be marked or stamped with the month and year of the last inspection (for example: 4-07).

If you're pulling a pallet for maintenance we strongly recommend replacing the locks. All "A" and "B" locks should be immediately removed from service and upgraded to the "C" lock. This is the current version of the pallet lock and the very best we have ever manufactured. Contact Weldcoa for the FREE lock installation video at 1.800.852.2325.

Issue: Pallet damage to base underside

Type of pallet: Second generation "B" Type Pallet.

Description: The "B" generation of Weldcoa Sur-Loc Pallets had a series of 6 sections of flat plates that created the fork passage below the deck of the pallet. In image 1 we can see that two of the sections of the fork passage at the front of the pallet are missing. When we raise the pallet in image 2 we can see that there are only two sections on the right side of the pallet left on this base. If the remaining sections of flat plate break off this pallet can easily over turn during loading or unloading.

Corrective action: This pallet must be pulled from service and the base must be repaired. While the pallet is being repaired Weldcoa can have the pallet locks upgraded to the current Third generation "C" Type Pallet Locks. Weldcoa can supply the procedure for repair and the materials. Please contact us for more information.

Description: Horizontal Bent: Any deflection inward or outward should be reason to take pallet out of service for repair. Vertical Bent: Any deflection inward or outward should be reason to take pallet out of service for repair. More than 1" of distortion from top of pallet fence should warrant the repair of pallet. Vertical Cracking: Any cracks in the vertical rails typically in at the deck height or just below warrants removal from service for repairs.

Corrective action: Any weld cracks or sever corrosion should be cause to take pallet out of service for repair. This applies to the 3 and 4 rail pallets.

Issue: Misshapen lock fronts/C channels are cracked or distorted. Inspect locks to make sure they operate smoothly and to insure that they have been greased recently. Lock pin extension should be inspected to insure that each pin extends 1" beyond the pallet base in order to lock in to the pallet vehicle.

Description: Lock Mechanism Abuse. The ramming of fork trucks or the blunt force of a hammer can shorten the life of the locking system. Corrective action: Misshapen lock fronts due to fork truck impacts and mushrooming of the pallet flag from blunt trauma will require immediate removal from service and an immediate inspection of locking system.
